Masters Weekend – Zahery Zone

One of the greatest sports weekends of the year has finally arrived — the Masters. This year marks the 85th Masters tournament at Augusta National Golf Course — A tradition unlike any other.

This blog is going to be a little bit different compared to my previous posts. Since I’ve started this blog I always wanted to get friends involved on this platform. The Zahery Zone has three Senior Golf Analysts that will be telling you who you should be riding this weekend. Some of you may be asking, who are those three analysts? These three analysts are some of the most credible and reliable in the industry — Matt Moon, Braden May, and Jack Vickery. These boys put a lot of time into their initial blog on the Zahery Zone and they, for the sake of the weekend, all hit a hole in one.

Masters Prediction: Matt Kuchar

It’s Masters Weekend. Also known as Christmas for adult men everywhere.

Checked the FedEx Cup Points this morning, didn’t have to look any further than the top of the list to see the Bridgestone man himself. He’s already won two events this year, and if Sergio wasn’t in his head for his own dumbass putting mistake, than the outcome of the Dell Matchplay might have resulted in a win for Kuch too. He leads the tour in greens in regulation, which gives him a chance to run a few deep birdies in at any time. He’s long enough to compete at Augusta, already proving that with 4 top 10 finishes in the last 7 years.

I’m taking Kuchar at 40/1 for one reason: consistency. I want my horse to be someone who I know is going to be playing Sunday afternoon, and you’re getting that with Kuch. The old man is playing the best golf of his life right now, and you know how many majors he has under his belt? Zero. I don’t like betting on dues, but my guy is due.

Kuchar has weathered some bad publicity (for the first time in his entire career, I’ll add) after the caddie tipping incident at the Mayakoba Classic in November. He’s already rebounded nicely, but I’m looking for him to totally sweep it under the rug April 14th when he puts on his nice new green jacket.

40/1??? Are you kidding me!?!?! Throw a dart on this man.

Two Words: Steady Eddy. Georgia Tech. Matt Kuchar.

Masters Prediction: Jon Rahm

First off I just want to say shout out to The Zahery Zone, it’s an honor to be featured on such a well-known platform like this one.

The formula for winning The Masters is a fairly simple one: drive the ball long, dominate the par fives, and knock down the intermediate putts. If you can find someone that ranks in the top 40ish of all these categories, he’s probably your guy. That being said, I’ll narrow my 18 minutes of extensive research into two cash money picks for you to win big on the best weekend of the year.

We all know Jon Rahm can clobber the ball, and that’s a good thing if you’re looking for low numbers on long holes. He currently ranks 23rd in driving distance, 15th in par 5 birdies, and 41st in par 5 performance. While he’s known primarily as a big stick, he also ranks 36th in putts per round this year, which surprised me a little. Add all of that to his 6 top 10 finishes this year (second to only Rory McIlroy) and you’ve got a guy with the perfect game for Augusta playing the best golf of his career. Hammer this number and take it to the bank on Sunday.

*Bonus Thursday matchup* Tommy Fleetwood -135 over Francesco Molinari

I don’t have any stats to back this one up but just look at Fleetwood’s hair. He probably bags more chicks than Matt Moon at a Texas Cowboys formal. Look good, feel good, play good.

Masters Prediction: Rickie Fowler

Why Rickie Fowler will take home the green jacket: He’s the best golfer in the world without a major championship on his resume. He is capable of putting up low numbers late in the tournament, as he did last year when he posted a 65 and 67 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, to put himself one shot off the lead and in sole possession of second place. He’s been inconsistent this year, but with a win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and three top-10 finishes this season, he has shown that he can get hot at the right time. Lately at Augusta, that has been an ongoing theme with champions. Each of the last four Masters, and seven of the last eight, have been won by first-time major champions. Rickie Fowler will be the fifth straight golfer to join that fraternity for the first time.

If you’re looking to make a quick buck this weekend, follow the boys picks and ride off into the sunset. I hope everyone has a great Masters weekend. Everything about this weekend is a tradition, so appreciate it as much as possible because we won’t be back until the first weekend of April 2020.
