Emergency Zahery Zone Blog – Chicago Cubs

Spring is in season and hibernation has offically ended — The Zahery Zone is back bitches.

I don’t even know what to say. What the hell are the Chicago Cubs doing? The Cubs just got handed their 4th straight loss after the bullpen, yet again, blew a lead late. The Zahery Zone is here to discuss.

With an already warm seat to start the season, this isn’t the ideal start Joe Maddon was hoping for in a year where he’ll probably lose his job if they don’t AT LEAST make the World Series. As they like to say, World Series or bust. Yes, I know Maddon won a World Series and he’s been great for this team, but sports is a “what have you done for me lately?” business and it should be no surprise to anyone that he’s on the hot seat.

There are a lot of things wrong with the Cubs right now. The biggest you ask? The bullpen. I don’t really need to go into great detail on this one. If you’ve watched any of their games this season you know how terrible they have been. Quite honestly it’s disgusting. Cubs closer, Brandon Morrow, is returning from last years season ending injury soon, so that will help, but they still have so many issues they need to address. CJ Edwards leg kick, Tyler Chatwood being classic fucking Chatwood, and an overall weak staff with Randy Rosario, Brandon Kintzler, and Mike Montgomery. As of right now, I’m only somewhat confident in putting one reliever on the mound and that’s Pedro Strop, and that’s even after a wild pitch that cost them the game the other day.

If the Zahery Zone can give one quick bit of advice it’s to go sign Craig Kimbrel ASAP. Give him as much money as he wants. The 7x All Star and World Series winner last year with the Red Sox has been one of, if not the best closer in the MLB since 2011. He’s still a free agent and has to be licking his chops waiting for a call. This would be an immediate upgrade and add significant depth which will pay dividends in the months of August, September, and hopefully October. Theo Epstein and the rest of the front office, please make something happen soon. Oh, and also miss me with the “Cubs don’t have any money” narrative. They’re the Chicago Cubs, they practically print money.

I don’t even know what to say anymore. I wrote this quickly after tonight’s loss and I’m a little fired up. The Brewers are red hot and this Cardinals team is not the same Cardinals team we’ve seen the last 3 seasons. The Cubs window is now, they need to go for it now. Since 2015 they’ve given us too many great memories that will last a lifetime, but like I mentioned earlier, sports is a “what have you done for me lately?” business and if you disagree you are complacent with being average.

So I think I can speak for every single Cubs fan in the world when I say, please figure this out soon before this window closes……………… Please.
